UN: 30 million Sudanese in need of aid and 70% of those affected by the conflict are women

Rhino: Agencies – The Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan, Edmore Tundlana, warned that the situation in the country is worsening as the conflict continues and more people are displaced and humanitarian needs increase.

“The situation in Sudan is not good. “It’s getting worse by the day. “Sudan has some of the highest humanitarian needs in the world. About 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. That’s actually five million more people than a year ago,” he said.

He spoke about the repercussions of the conflict on women and girls in particular, saying that “about 70 percent of the people actually affected by the conflict including internally displaced people are actually women and girls.”

He called for the necessary humanitarian funding, noting in this regard the humanitarian appeal for Sudan to raise 4.2 billion dollars.
