Five killed in an attack by Drones targeting the Sudanese army commander in Jebait, eastern Sudan

According to eyewitnesses, two suicide drones targeted the graduation ceremony of the military academy students at jebait Military Institute after Burhan’s arrival.

The army spokesman’s office said in a statement that the incident caused five deaths and minor injuries that are being counted. According to Al Arabiya, the army commander was evacuated to the city of Port Sudan.

Prior to the attack, Al-Burhan said in his speech to the military that the armed movements, the popular resistance, and the battalions fighting alongside the army must be included in any upcoming negotiations, ‘otherwise the army will not go alone to negotiations that do not recognize the existing authority in Port Sudan.’

The attack is the first of its kind to hit the Red Sea state since the outbreak of fighting between the army and the Rapid Support on 15 April 2023, opening the door to the possibility of moving the war to the eastern state, which hosts the majority of ministries and foreign embassies, after it was chosen as an alternative capital to Khartoum.
