South Sudan’s basketball team beats Puerto Rico in its Olympic debut

Rhino: Agencies – The South Sudanese basketball team defeated its Puerto Rican counterpart 90-79, within the Group C competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The victory is the first for the South Sudanese team in its historic first participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. With this victory, South Sudan earned its first two points in the Olympics. South Sudan’s Karlik Jones is the leading scorer for his team with 19 points, Marial Shayok with 15 points, followed by Noni Omot and Paul Cole with 12 points each.

Game recap:

Puerto Rico won the first period 28-20 and South Sudan won the second period 28-26 to end the first half with Puerto Rico leading 54-48, a six-point margin.

However, the third period saw Noni Amot’s men dominate the period with a 23-15 run, giving South Sudan a 71-69 lead. South Sudan continued their dominance and finished the fourth period with a 19-10 run to seal the game by 11 points at 90-79.
