Teachers campaign to stop the war .. Does it support the Geneva negotiations?

Khartoum: Rhino – Fifteen months of war have forced more than 350,000 teachers in Sudan to leave teaching and seek alternative and marginal professions to meet the requirements of living, and most schools are still closed and nearly 20 million children do not go to school, in the worst educational disaster in the region.

Because education is the key to achieving peace, and because the continuation of the war means the destruction of the future, the Sudanese Teachers Committee has initiated the Great Teachers’ Campaign to Stop the War. The campaign aims to highlight the voice of teachers rejecting the war and demanding peace, as the education sector is one of the most affected sectors, and teachers are the most capable and worthy to lead the people’s movement rejecting the war.

Sudanese people have been suffering for nearly a year and a half since the start of the war on 15 April 2023, and the result has been killing, displacement, starvation and the destruction of vital public institutions.

There have been numerous calls to end the war and voices for peace, but the lack of real will to stop this war has failed all attempts to reach peaceful solutions that put an end to the suffering. The education sector in Sudan represents the majority of the Sudanese people and there is no family untouched by the destruction caused by the war in this sector, so Sudanese teachers find themselves facing a great challenge in raising the voice of peace through their initiative that was launched yesterday.

The importance of this initiative and the great national role played by teachers, professor and educational expert Ali Al-Hassan told Rhino that the countries that have risen would not have risen if they had not put the teacher in his rightful place and made him the owner of advice and opinion. Al-Hassan adds that advanced societies take the teacher as a model and role model as the bearer of the message of peace, peace, brotherhood, coexistence and inoculation of societies from unhealthy values and behaviors.
