Rhino: agencies – At the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday, the weather was rainy, some moments were bizarre, but most of it was beautiful and memorable.
As described by CNN, the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony will live on in Olympic mythology, albeit not in the way organizers had hoped.
It wasn’t the opening night that Olympic organizers had hoped for, but the opportunity to fully showcase the ‘City of Light’, Paris, its culture and people was well and truly on display on Friday.
Boats floating down the Seine allowed for incredible Parisian vistas as they passed historic landmarks on their journey to the end of the Parade of Nations at the Trocadero, with the Eiffel Tower adorned with Olympic rings as a backdrop.
The iconic landmark was lit up in all its splendor, a veritable beacon on what could have been a gloomy night.
Several areas of the city were utilized as part of the displays, including videos of the torchbearer running across the city’s rooftops and iconic Paris locations. While the first part of the ceremony bounced back and forth between recorded videos and extensive live footage of the city, it was when the focus was on Paris itself that it really came alive.
As the sun set, the City of Light shone through the raindrops. The illuminated Olympic torch passed across the Seine and around the magnificent landscape outside the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower’s light show looked spectacular, illuminating clouds and rain with lasers and dancing beams.
