Rhino: Agencies – The French newspaper Le Monde reported on Friday that Al-Da’ein Hospital in Darfur was deliberately attacked by the Sudanese army, and that the drone strike on the healthcare facility on March 20 killed 70 people, including about 15 children.
The newspaper added in a report published today: “Ramadan was supposed to end on Friday, March 20, bringing an end to the war that has relentlessly torn Sudan apart. However, Eid al-Fitr celebrations were cut short in El Daein, the capital of East Darfur. Two drone strikes carried out by the Sudanese military targeted the city’s university hospital that evening, killing 70 people and wounding 146 others, according to the World Health Organization”.
The report stated: “The facility, which served as the main health center for two million people, is now out of service. The World Health Organization condemned another attack ‘targeting civilian infrastructure and destroying any chance of survival.’ In videos documented by Le Monde, the hospital’s facade appears to have been severely damaged by the explosion.
The upper floor of the main building, which housed the emergency and trauma department, has been reduced to rubble. Satellite images confirm that the roof partially collapsed as a result of the force of the impact”.
