Rhino: Agencies – US President Joe Biden has announced his intention not to run for a second presidential term, and to step down from the race scheduled for next November, against former President Donald Trump.

‘While I intend to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and my country to step aside and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,’ Biden said in a statement on Sunday, revealing that he will speak in more detail about his decision in an address to the nation this week.

In a subsequent blog post, Biden expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris to run against Trump.

‘Fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My first decision as the party’s 2020 nominee was to choose Kamala Harris as my vice president. It was the best decision I ever made.)

Biden’s surprise announcement comes after weeks of pressure from Democratic leaders, organizers and donors who publicly called for Biden’s withdrawal.

His disastrous performance in the CNN presidential debate against Trump last month contributed to his disproportionate appearance, raising concerns among voters, especially about his advanced age (81 years old).
