Iran remains open to resuming negotiations with Washington over nuclear deal

Rhino: Agencies – Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani told Newsweek magazine in an interview published on Tuesday that Tehran remains open to resuming negotiations with Washington on restoring mutual participation in the nuclear deal.

Bagheri’s comments come as he prepares to address the United Nations Security Council in New York.

Under former President Donald Trump, the US withdrew in 2018 from the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers.

Indirect talks between the US and Tehran to revive the deal have stalled.

Iran is still part of the deal but has scaled back its commitments due to US sanctions.

On the foreign policy front, Bagheri Kani said Tehran remains open to resuming negotiations with Washington towards restoring mutual participation in the nuclear deal.

The magazine quoted the acting foreign minister as saying that Tehran also intends to strengthen its relations with China, Russia and neighboring countries. He added that Iran will call for stronger measures against Israel in light of the war in the Gaza Strip.
