Juba: Sudanese army forces arrived in South Sudan withdrawing from Meiram

Rhino: Agencies – South Sudan announced today, Saturday, that it has received elements of the Sudanese army, who crossed the border between the two countries last week, after the fall of the military base of Al-Miram, West Kordofan state, in the hands of the Rapid Support.

The commander of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSDF), Major General Ankon Ankom, told Sudan Tribune: “We received units of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) that withdrew from al-Mirim in the town of Wargit.”

He explained that he told the retreating Sudanese forces to stay at the location they arrived at, and that they will be treated as refugees until they receive instructions from the General Command of the army in South Sudan.

On July 4, the RSF took control of the area of al-Mirim in West Kordofan state, about 60 km from the border with South Sudan, and seized the command of the 92nd Brigade of the 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa.

The town of al-Mirim is one of the strategic points on the border between Sudan and South Sudan, through which food supplies pass to the states of Darfur and Kordofan, and the area, which is inhabited by the Misseriya tribes, is adjacent to oil production areas.
