TASIS Alliance Calls on the Quintet to Review the Political Process in Sudan

Rhino: Agencies – TASIS Alliance announced on Friday that it would not participate in the meeting convened by the Quint in Addis Ababa as part of the second exploratory phase of the political process regarding Sudan, while expressing its willingness to hold a separate meeting with the Quint to discuss the course of the political process and its requirements.

In a statement, TASIS Alliance said it had received an invitation to participate in consultations regarding the formation of a preparatory committee to lead the political process aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan, affirming its appreciation for the efforts being made by the Quint to find a political settlement that would end the war, achieve security and stability, and pave the way for a comprehensive political process among the Sudanese parties.

It added that the political process should be based on a common understanding among Sudanese forces and regional and international partners, thereby contributing to advancing peace efforts and reaching a “just, comprehensive, and sustainable” settlement that leads the country toward peace, stability, and a democratic civilian transition.

Conversely, the coalition explained that its decision not to participate in the meeting scheduled for August 1 stems from what it described as “shortcomings” in the management of the exploratory phase, specifically regarding how participating parties are identified and the mechanisms for managing the political process, noting that these issues require a comprehensive review of the foundations and terms of reference of the political process before moving on to subsequent stages.

The Coalition emphasized that it does not reject engagement in political efforts but rather wishes to hold a meeting with the Quint at the earliest opportunity to discuss the requirements of the exploratory phase and agree on foundations that will ensure the success of the political process.
