Rhino: Agencies – A woman and a child were killed, and 4 others were injured on Friday in a Sudanese air force airstrike targeting a camp for displaced people in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, according to “Darfur24” news website today, Saturday.
The news website quoted eyewitnesses as saying that an army helicopter bombed the Abu Shouk IDP camp, killing a woman and a child, and injuring four others with varying degrees of injuries. The witnesses noted that a number of houses were destroyed as a result of the strike, which caused fear and panic among the displaced people, and resulted in the death of a number of army soldiers as well, according to the witnesses.
An intelligence source in the 6th Infantry Division told Darfur24 that the aerial bombardment on Abu Shouk camp was due to the presence of a jamming device in the vicinity of the camp. “The helicopter crew alerted the control room at the 6th Infantry Division command about the presence of jamming, which forced them to launch the raid,” he added.
