Israeli strikes on the town of Jiyeh and the Bekaa region of Lebanon

Rhino: At least one Israeli airstrike hit a residential building in the coastal town of Jiyeh, south of Beirut, on Tuesday, Lebanese state media said, while other strikes hit other parts of the country, causing casualties as the Hezbollah group fired rockets toward Israel.

The attack on the coastal town of Jiyeh caused a huge plume of smoke to rise from a residential building. It was unclear whether the strikes were an assassination attempt, and Israel issued no evacuation warning before the strikes.

The Israeli army and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group have been exchanging fire for more than a year in parallel with the Gaza war, but hostilities have escalated over the past six weeks. Health authorities in Lebanon say more than 3,000 people have died in Lebanon, most of them since late September.

Tuesday’s strikes killed five people near the Bekaa Valley city of Baalbek, including two who died in a strike on a car, Lebanon’s health ministry said. More than 40,000 housing units in the border region have been destroyed by the offensive.
