Rhino: Follow-up – The Sudanese National Human Rights Observatory expressed its strong condemnation of the videos circulating online that show women being recruited into the armed forces and the establishment of training camps for them in the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
The Observatory added in a statement: “This development is a worrying indication of the expanding scope of recruitment, raising serious concerns about its implications for human rights and the protection of civilians, and necessitates a transparent investigation and accountability for those responsible in accordance with the law”.
It continued: “The deployment of civilians, particularly women, to the battlefield constitutes a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the protection of civilians during armed conflicts”.
