Rhino: Agencies –French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barro said before summoning the Israeli ambassador on Tuesday that a repeat of the Jerusalem incident, which saw armed Israeli security forces enter a French-run site, must never happen again.
Two French security officials with diplomatic status were briefly detained on Nov. 7 when Barro was scheduled to visit the Pater Noster church complex on the Mount of Olives.
The site, one of four French-run sites in Jerusalem, is under the responsibility of Paris and this is not the first time issues have arisen over French historical properties in the Holy City.
“It is an opportunity for France to reiterate that it will not tolerate the entry of Israeli armed forces into these areas for which it (France) is responsible and protects,” Barro told France 24 television station in response to a question about what will be said to the ambassador.
He added that the meeting will include “emphasizing once again that this incident must not happen again, that is, that Israeli forces enter armed and unauthorized.”
The Israeli ambassador is scheduled to meet with Barrow’s chief of staff at the Foreign Ministry headquarters on Tuesday.
