Al-Baraa Militia Commits Widespread Violations Against Civilians in Cities of North Kordofan

Rhino: Follow-up – The cities of Bara, Um Sayala, Jabra al-Sheikh, and Um Qarfa in North Kordofan State have witnessed operations by members of the Al-Baraa Militia and Special Forces targeting civilians in those areas on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces, subjecting them to executions and arrests based on pre-prepared lists. They noted that militias affiliated with the Islamic Movement have committed widespread violations against unarmed civilians in those areas, which the army has taken control of in recent days.

The “Sahih Sudan” news website quoted a local source as saying that members wearing civilian clothing—some of whom were masked—were carrying lists and searching for names within the city of Bara, and were raiding citizens’ homes to search for individuals they claimed were collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces.

The source added that some of the people on the lists had actually left the city since the army first took control of it, which indicates that these lists are being used to settle political scores with the Islamists’ opponents—particularly young men and women who were active in the December Revolution movement.

The source warned of the consequences of widespread violations against innocent civilians, particularly those who oppose the war, support ending it, and openly express their views.

These violations have recurred in many areas after the army recaptured them, particularly in the capital Khartoum and in the cities and villages of Al-Jazirah and Sennar states.
